'Everything under control' - Gautam Gambhir rubbishes claims of unrest in dressing room
"Debates between coach and player should remain in the dressing room. These are just reports, not the truth," Gambhir said.
The series opener of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Perth was dominatingly won by India by a whopping 295 runs. The spirits were high since the momentum was unexpectedly with the visitors after a shambolic home series against New Zealand which India lost 3-0. Meanwhile, the final Test of the ongoing series is a do-or-die situation for India as a loss would mean conceding the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in nearly a decade.
Ahead of the New Year's Test in Sydney, India ead coach Gautam Gambhir appeared quite optimistic despite India's situation in the series.
"If someone had said this 40-45 days ago that we would be in this situation, that we can come to Sydney and draw this series, then it's a good position to be in. And I don't think so that nothing is under control. When we come on a tour, it's not like batting didn't do well or bowling didn't do well," stated an assertive Gambhir during the pre-match press conference.

I don't think that there is much to worry about: Gambhir
The former Indian opener explained why belueves that the situation is not as dire as the outside world believes.
"If batting and bowling didn't do well, we wouldn't have won a Test match or we wouldn't have been 2-1 down. We could have been in a worse situation. So as I said, I don't think that there is so much to worry about," added Gambhir.
Gambhir was also asked to comment on the reported rift in the Indian dressing room, which the Indian coach rubbished. "Debates between coach and player should remain in the dressing room. These are just reports, not the truth. Stern words and honest conversations are a part of the game, but they don’t belong in the public domain."
Interestingly, while the scoreline reflects a margin in favour of Australia, India have not done too badly considering the grand scheme of things. Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Kumar Reddy have stepped up while in the bowling department, Jasprit Bumrah has ruled the roost. If India manage to draw level in Sydney, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be reclaimed as India won it the last time in the 2022-23 season.
