‘Give the correct picture’- Rohit Sharma miffed with broadcaster for showing first century in ‘three years’
Rohit smashed 101 runs off 85 balls against the Kiwis in Indore.
Team India skipper, Rohit Sharma, was miffed after the broadcaster displayed his century-knock against New Zealand as his ‘first in three years’. The Men in Blue registered a comprehensive series win by winning the third and final ODI by 90 runs against the BlackCaps on Tuesday, January 24, in Indore.
It was courtesy of the two magnificent centuries scored by Rohit and Shubman Gill in the first innings that handed the side a blazing start in the contest. However, following the series win, the skipper seemed quite annoyed with the way the broadcaster had projected his century, labelling it his ‘first in three years’.
"Regarding the first hundred in three years, I've played only 12 (17) ODIs in three years. Three years sounds a lot. You guys should know what's happening. I know that it was shown on broadcast but kabhi kabhi woh cheez bhi dhyan dena chahiye, broadcaster ko bhi sahi cheez dikhana chahiye (the broadcasters should give the correct picture),” told Rohit to the reporters after the match.
“There were no matches in 2020. Everyone was sitting at home because of COVID-19. We hardly played ODIs, I was injured so I played two Tests during that time, so you have to put all of that in perspective,” added Rohit.
India claim No.1 ODI spot in rankings
The Men in Blue dislodged England from the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI team rankings after their win by 90 runs against the Kiwis in the third and final ODI. The contest also saw quite a few records etched in the history books as Rohit Sharma smashed 101 runs off 85 balls which was his second-fastest ton in the 50-over format.
Furthermore, Gill’s century (112 runs in 78 deliveries) also meant that the batter equalled Pakistan’s Babar Azam's world record of scoring the most runs (360 runs) in a three-match ODI series. The 212-run partnership between the openers is also the highest by an opening pair against New Zealand in ODIs.
