Virat Kohli and Steve Smith, former Indian and Australian skippers, are arguably two of the most proactive batters while occupying the crease, particularly when it comes to the red-ball format. Their fierce rivalry has not prevented them from offering praise to each other for fuelling each others' game due to the vigorous competition each imposes on the other.

In a recent discussion, Australian all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell, seemed to be stoked for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy scheduled for later this year, as well as provided his opinion on the key factor which according to him, could sway the game into the hands of the respective nations.

"I think probably the way that the two superstar batters, Steve Smith and Virat Kohli, are probably head-to-head, seeing how their dominance I suppose, is asserted on the series and how much of an influence that has on who takes home the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. One of those two is going to make a lot of runs, if not both of them, and it is going to be pretty exciting to watch the two of the finest players of our generation go head-to-head," stated Maxwell, in a recent conversation with Star Sports.

BGT to commence in November 2024

With the first out of the five-match series of the highly-anticipated BGT to kickstart at the Perth Stadium on November 22, 2024, the Indians have five Tests to prepare themselves for the challenge Down Under.

On the other hand, the Aussies have no red-ball games from now onwards until the series commences. In fact, their last Test was the second and final game of the series against New Zealand.

Despite Australia starting out as favourites keeping in mind their dominance in Tests at home, the Indians cannot be overlooked one bit, especially with the way the previous two series played in Australia went about. India will be desperate to make it three on the bounce in their favour, with Australia more than hungry to not let that happen.
