‘He was fearless right from ball one’ - KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer heaps praise on Angkrish Raghuvanshi after sensational IPL debut
“When I see him at training, his work ethic is phenomenal," Iyer said.
Kolkata Knight Riders continue to put in exceptional performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). Having played three games in the tournament so far, Kolkata has managed to register wins in every game, with their latest win coming against Delhi Capitals.
One of the biggest highlights of KKR’s mammoth win against DC was the performance of debutant Angkrish Raghuvanshi. The 18-year-old took centre stage in his debut IPL match and went on to score 54 runs in 27 deliveries, impressing his peers. His performance especially impressed KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer, who came forward to highlight how the 18-year-old was fearless right from the get-go, even heaping praise on his work ethic.
“He (Raghuvanshi) was fearless right from ball one; when I see him at training, his work ethic is phenomenal. He’s top-notch in terms of analysing the situation. He’s a smart batter when it comes to reading the situation and the way he played today, the shots were pleasing to the eye,” Iyer said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
This is the mindset, we keep the intent strong: Iyer
Furthermore, Shreyas Iyer talked about the plans that the management has in place for Sunil Narine, who is opening for KKR and has proven very effective in his role once again. The skipper revealed that the coaches asked Narine to take advantage of the powerplay and go all out all guns blazing, and even if he failed to do so, there were other batters to get the job done.
“As I said in a pre-match interview that Sunny’s (Narine) job is just to go out there and free his arm and see to it that we have a great Powerplay. Even if he doesn’t, we’ve got other batters who can take on the bowlers. This is the mindset, we keep the intent strong,” Iyer concluded.
After their third consecutive win, Kolkata Knight Riders now sit atop the IPL 2024 standings with six points in three matches, staying ahead of Rajasthan Royals on net run rate.
