Rohit Sharma made it seven wins out of seven as a skipper in the Asia Cup after India outclassed Hong Kong by 40 runs in their second match of the 2022 Asia Cup. The Indian team were put in to bat first after Hong Kong won the toss and they finished with a massive tally of 192 runs on the back of scintillating half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav.

India had a sedate start to their batting innings as KL Rahul looked sluggish from the beginning. But the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma hit a few attacking shots before he was sent back to the hut.

Rohit's brisk cameo gave India a decent start in the powerplay and brought Kohli to the crease, who showed signs of form in the previous encounter against nemesis Pakistan, took his time and consolidated with Rahul after Rohit's dismissal. But it was the fall of Rahul's wicket, that kickstarted the Indian innings as Suryakumar Yadav dispatched his first two deliveries for boundaries, making his intentions clear from the get-go.

Kohli and Suryakumar took a liking to the Hong Kong bowlers, especially the pacers in the latter stages of the innings as the pair stitched a mindboggling unbeaten 98-run partnership in just 42 deliveries, registering their respective fifties in the process.

The Hong Kong innings was off to a rocky start as they lost Yasim Murtaza in the second over, but Babar Hayat took it upon himself to do the bulk of scoring as he plundered the young bowling duo of Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh. His innings got Hong Kong to a rollicking start in the chase and gave a few headaches to Rohit Sharma.

But the introduction of spin and an inspired bit of fielding effort from Ravindra Jadeja shifted the momentum in favor of the Indian team as they completed a comprehensive victory by 40 runs in the end.
