'He's an incredible player, selectors have got headache now' - David Warner in awe of Tim David's recent heroics
Tim David smashed 42 off 20 deliveries in the second T20I of the series against West Indies.
The newest Australian sensation Tim David has played some astonishing knocks in various parts of the world that earned him the reputation of a smash hitter. It took some time for Australia to value his potential but the opener David Warner has expressed his joy to see the 26-year-old to be a part of the Australian squad for the T20 World Cup.
Born in Singapore, the cricketer has played only five T20Is for Australia so far. He showed his ability in the recently concluded T20I series versus India but his knock of 42 off 20 against West Indies in the second T20I of the series has taken the cricketing world by storm. With the middle-order batters struggling, Tim took the matter into his own hands and smashed some marvellous shots to help Australia reach 178 after the 20-over mark. With that, David Warner has lauded Tim David and pointed out his strengths.
“Now he's in our team and our set-up, it's a godsend. He's an incredible player and he's got some serious power. It boosts our middle order. With his height as well, and strength, it suits us that's for sure,” David Warner said after Australia's 31-run victory over West Indies.
The selectors have got a headache now: David Warner on Tim David’s future
One of the designated finishers, Marcus Stoinis is currently not a part of the Australian squad while Mitch Marsh also missed the second T20I against West Indies. With that, questions arise on the future of Tim David. Will he feature in the playing XI during the T20 World Cup or the team management will go with experienced all-rounders in the middle.
“Coming out and playing that role there when it was a hard wicket to start on really opens our eyes to ‘how do we utilise that?’ But even what he did for Mumbai (Indians, in the IPL), he got a couple of thirties or forties off eight or nine balls - it's incredible,” said Warner.
“You don't get these types of players every day. It's going to be good for us moving forward and hopefully, there's a spot there as well because the selectors have got a headache now,” the 35-year-old added.
Australia’s plans and intentions will soon be cleared when England plays a three-match T20I series against the defending T20 world champions. Before the all-important tournament, this is the last time when both these teams will play competitive cricket.
