‘He's more like Boult, Chahar; not a death bowler’ - Simon Doull analyses Arjun Tendulkar’s IPL 2023 performances so far

"He [Arjun Tendulkar] is not a guy they should be bowling in the last four or five [overs]," said Doull.

Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull has said that Arjun Tendulkar is not ready to bowl in the death overs as yet. Playing his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Arjun has played four matches in the tournament so far and has managed three wickets.

After making his debut against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), where he could not make much impact, the 23-year-old delivered in his very next game, as he defended 20 runs in the last over against Sunrisers Hyderabad (srh) and also picked his maiden wicket in the league. However, he conceded 48 runs in four overs against Punjab Kings. Furthermore, he took a wicket against Gujarat Titans in Mumbai Indians' most recent game.

"The last thing you want to do to a young man [Arjun Tendulkar] is throw him on the heap after one bad game because he has actually done a pretty good job. I don't think in all honesty, and I think Rohit Sharma knows he is not really a death bowler as of yet. He is not a guy they should be bowling in the last four or five. But he went to him to give him an opportunity, and it cost them," Simon Doull told Cricbuzz.

I think Arjun Tendulkar is more like Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar: Simon Doull

Doull further stated that Arjun’s abilities are similar to those of Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar, who bowl two-to-three overs in the powerplay. He also reckoned that the 23-year-old's inexperience hinders his ability to bowl in the death overs.

"I think he is more like Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar, who bowl two to three overs upfront where it swings a little bit, and then you forget about it. He is not experienced enough at the moment to be bowling at the back end of the innings," Doull said.
