'Hope is the biggest tope' - Star ropes in legendary commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu for IPL 2024

Sidhu had ventured into politics which meant his commentary career had to take a back seat.

Navjot Singh Sidhu, the former India cricketer who made a great name for himself in commentary has been roped in yet again by Star Sports for the upcoming IPL season.

Sidhu who was known for his one-liners and 'Khataak' had ventured into politics in 2004 after his successful stint as a commentator. The former India player joined the BJP and contested the election from the Amritsar constituency. Upon victory, Sidhu held the seat till 2014 as he won back-to-back elections.

His commentary career had taken a back seat due to a venture in politics but as many had wished for, Sidhu is finally back into commentary. Star made the announcement through a social media post whose caption read, "A wise man once said, "Hope is the biggest 'tope'".

Sidhu played 51 Tests and 136 ODIs for India in a career spanning 16 years. The right-hand opening batter made 3202 and 4413 runs in Tests and ODIs respectively. Dubbed a strokeless wonder in the nascent stages of his career, Sidhu quickly transformed his strokeplay and turned into an important player for the national team. 

He then swiftly transitioned into commentary and soon became a fan favourite for his one-liners and witty responses from the com box. His ardent knowledge of shayaris add flavour to the games so much so that a good number of fans tune in just to listen to him. 

Sidhu's inclusion to the commentary box has added another level of excitement for the fans. As the new season kicks off on March 22nd, all eyes are set on the curtain raiser between CSK and RCB at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
