Legendary India cricketer and former captain Kapil Dev has made a very bold and interesting prediction regarding a current star India cricketer amidst the ongoing first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.
It was under Kapil that India took that huge step towards becoming a cricketing powerhouse by winning the 1983 World Cup, beating the odds against the mighty West Indies in the final. Dev's contribution to Indian cricket is immense and now he has come up to state that Kohli can go on to make 2-3 centuries in the ongoing series.
I think Kohli will make an impact: Kapil Dev
"If he even makes 50, then I can predict that he will make 2-3 centuries in this series because both teams will get two chances. We need to keep that in mind," the 64-year-old said on the YouTube channel 'Uncut'.
It is to be noted that in India's first innings of the opening Test, the 34-year-old failed to click with the bat, managing only 12 from 26 deliveries, which included two boundaries. However, Kapil is confident that Kohli is due for not one but atleast a few tons in the entire Test series.
"I think he will make an impact, because he still has a lot of hunger left in him, which we all can see. The first match is very important. If he makes runs, then his playing style changes. When there is a bigger player the first Test match is always important," he added.
Kapil went on to highlight that Kohli is a player who knows and possesses the potential to change the course of any game once he gets going and finds his mojo. Kapil has a firm belief that the right-handed batter will definitely step up from the second innings.
On an ending note, Dev expressed his views about the much hullabaloo surrounding the Nagpur pitch. He stated that compared to the previous day's when pitches were more of the "batter's paradise", nowadays the pitches are made a little bit in the favour of the bowler's, but that doesn't mean that batter's cannot show the intensity in them to score the runs.
"We are hearing that there will be turning pitches, it can't be that the team will make 600. If they make, then all hail the batters. The pitches will be in the batters' hands. Nowadays, 60 percent of the pitches are on the bowlers' side, so with that in mind, we can't say that 400 runs will be made. It will be made between 220-250. 300 is very big and if they do, then there will be a feeling of not losing. If pitches will be a little good, then Virat Kohli will make runs for sure," he signed off.
