In the ongoing IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma has struggled to get going as the opener has amassed only 257 runs in 13 matches so far. In MI’s last game against Lucknow Super Giants, he once again got a good start, scoring 37 runs off 25 deliveries but failed to capitalise on it. Mumbai eventually lost the game by five runs as the road to the IPL playoffs got a bit complicated.

Meanwhile, talking about Rohit’s performance so far, former India opener Robin Uthappa mentioned that Rohit’s batting template is not working at the moment. Uthappa added that Rohit taking some time first and then going after the opposition is what suits him the most and that is what the cricketer should have gone with in the season.

"I don't there is much wrong with his form. When he is batting at the crease, he is playing like the Rohit Sharma we all know. I don't think the template he has chosen is not necessarily working for him. Although I don't think the template they've chosen for the captain of the Indian team of playing uber aggressive cricket. This hasn't helped Rohit Sharma the batter,” Uthappa told NDTV.

“I think he has been successful with the tried and tested method where he starts sedately but capitalises on the amount of time he has taken initially. If he comes back to the proper batting, he will perform like the Rohit Sharma we all know. I necessarily don't think that he needs a break. It's just a mindset shift,” the cricketer added.

Meanwhile, after their narrow loss at the hands of Lucknow, Mumbai slipped to number four on the IPL points table. In their last league game, MI will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad, which is very much a do-or-die match for the five-time champions. However even if they win, net run rate can play a massive part as Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings can finish on 16 points as well.
