The IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024 can be said to be a tournament that has been coming of age for Rajasthan Royals’ Riyan Parag. After a series of lacklustre seasons for RR in the IPL, Parag has finally found his form for the side in the 17th edition of the tournament.

Having scored 181 runs in three games, Parag holds the IPL orange cap currently, tied on runs with ace batter Virat Kohli but with a better strike rate than the veteran. The youngster once again showcased his class against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in the 14th game of the tournament.

As RR aimed to chase down a total of 126 runs, Riyan Parag propelled his side to a win, scoring 54* runs in 39 deliveries, impressing the fans with his performances once again.

When asked about what he has changed in his playstyle, Parag calmly stated that he has simplified everything and is not trying to overcomplicate things anymore.

"Nothing, to be honest; actually, I have simplified everything instead of trying to do a lot of things. Before when I was not getting runs, I would think about it too much, try and do different stuff altogether, and then it would not work out. This year the goal was to keep it simple - watch the ball and hit the ball,” Riyan Parag said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

It was pretty simple to calculate everything: Parag

Furthermore, Riyan Parag reflected on how this was the role he has always played in domestic cricket, and after the early wickets of the top order, this was the role that he is used to playing.

"I have said it before, when I play domestic (cricket) this is the exact type of situation I go in to bat. When Jos [Buttler] bhai got out, and Ash [R Ashwin] bhai got out a little after, I was like, 'okay, this is what I do. This is what I've been doing for the last six months playing domestic cricket'. So it was pretty simple to calculate everything," Parag said.
