Day 1 of the second Test between India and New Zealand could well and truly be attributed to be the host's day, as they dismantled the Kiwis for 259 after they had won the toss and opted to bat first at the Maharashtra Cricket Association. It was Washington Sundar who caused the bulk of the havoc with a truly wonderful display, one which resulted in him scalping 7/59 in 23.1 overs.

Washington, who was brought in for the remainder of the series ahead of the ongoing Test, spoke on the valuable insights gained while playing alongside Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. He also hoped to feature in a lot of games for India which have all three of them operating as a trio.

“We communicated a lot and they brought in a lot of qualities, skill sets and experience. That really helps for someone who is playing along with them. It definitely helped me today and it is special to be playing in the game in which both of them are part of as well. I hope we will get to play a lot more games together,” stated Washington, as quoted by News18.

He’s always there to help everyone: Sundar

Sundar commended the cooperative demeanour of Ashwin as well as the tweak in bowling technique both of them had to make once the ball lost its hardness.

“It’s quite rare but he (Ashwin) is very kind, especially in that perspective. Not just me, but no matter who goes and asks him for ideas about bowling or any technicalities, he’s always there to help everyone. The ball became very soft. So, we had to sort of give more speed and more body into the ball, that was something me and Ash (Ashwin) kept talking about,” added Washington.
