Star Australian batter Travis Head has expressed his support for Indian captain Rohit Sharma's decision to stay back with his family and join the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 later. Rohit is expected to miss the first Test at Perth Stadium, starting on Friday, November 22, and stay back with his newborn son and wife Ritika Sadjeh.

On the sidelines of Australia's practice session on November 18 in Perth, the flamboyant Aussie batter said that he would not have done anything different had he been in Rohit's place.

"I 100 percent support his decision. I would do the same thing in same situation. We sacrifice a lot of things as cricketers, we do live a very privileged life and get looked after but on the flip side, we do miss some important milestones. I would've done the same thing if I was in that position. He has made the right call," Head told RevSportz.

Interestingly, Head had skipped the white-ball series at home against Pakistan to spend time with his wife Jess as the couple were expecting their second child.

“I’ll probably make decisions in the future around family more, and what drives me to play is probably more my family and my teammates,” Head said as he announced that he will miss South Australia's Sheffield Shield game as well.

A Test match will come again, but this is a very different moment: Michael Clarke

Rohit also received support from former Australian captain Michael Clarke as the latter shared his personal experience and said that the joy of becoming a father cannot be equated even to a World Cup win.

"The happiest day of my life was when my daughter was born. Much more than a Test match or a win or even a World Cup, you can’t equate it to anything. Family comes first, A Test match will come again but this is a very different moment. Rohit will be missed. His leadership will be missed but I can tell you I’d have done the exact same thing if I was in his position," Clarke told RevSportz.

According to SportsTak's report on November 18, Rohit will join the squad during the Perth Test as India will be led by Jasprit Bumrah. The Mumbai batter is likely to play India's two-day warm-up game at Manuka Oval, Canberra starting November 30. Rohit will be back at the helm for the pink-ball Test at Adelaide Oval, commencing on December 6.
