'I think Arshdeep Singh is best off as our third seamer and Hardik Pandya as the fourth' , Wasim Jaffer wants a more aggressive approach with the new ball
Wasim Jaffer has opined on utilizing Arshdeep Singh as the third seamer in the team.
Arshdeep Singh, much like his previous outing against Pakistan, was ineffective with the new ball and undid all the good work from Bhuvneshwar Kumar from the other end. But the 23-year-old, under pressure, produced a superb last over, defending seven runs and showcased his death bowling skills.
Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has suggested that India should opt for a more aggressive approach with the new ball in conversation with CricTracker on Bat Bricks7 presents Run ki Runneeti show. He suggested India to use Arshdeep as the third seamer and go with more attacking bowlers like Mohammed Shami with the new ball.
"We are not taking wickets with the new ball, and when that happens it becomes easier for the opponents. We talk about an aggressive approach in batting, but at the same time, our bowling also needs to be aggressive. Watching the tournament, I think Arshdeep Singh is best off as our third seamer and Hardik Pandya as the fourth seamer," Jaffer said to CricTracker.
'We missed the trick by playing a left hander instead of Dinesh Karthik' : Wasim Jaffer
The former Indian opener also made his point on the selection of Rishabh Pant ahead of Dinesh Karthik and stated it would've been better to go with the veteran wicketkeeper-batter, who was the man in form. He believes that Karthik and Axar Patel would've provided a better balance to the team.
"My question is that, if Ravindra Jadeja wasn't out of the team, would the team still bench DK and play Rishabh Pant? I think we missed a trick by not playing the in-form Dinesh Karthik and going for Pant just for the sake of playing a left-handed batter. I would've gone with Axar Patel and Dinesh Karthik on the team," Jaffer added.
