Pace sensation Haris Rauf has been a late entrant in Pakistan cricket unlike his past and present peers whose talents were discovered quiet early and were given international exposure soon after. However, that was not the case with Haris as he had to work his way to the top.

Meanwhile, it was Rauf’s memorable Big Bash League (BBL) season in 2019/20 that made Pakistan realize that they still have an additional hidden talent in the pace department. Lately, the speedster has explained his entire cricketing journey from playing tape-ball cricket and how he focused keenly on academics along with working part-time as a salesman.

My start was no different: Haris Rauf

“Most of the cricketers from Pakistan start with tape-ball cricket and my start was no different. I used to play on roads and never thought to be a professional cricketer. I used to study and do part-time job as a salesman,” Rauf was quoted as saying in a video on Pakistan Cricket’s Twitter handle.

“When I joined my university, I started playing professional tape-ball cricket in different cities and earning money to manage my fees. I went to the trials of Lahore Qalandars in 2017 and got selected there,” he added.

Meanwhile, Haris Rauf is just a step away from realizing his dreams by becoming a world champion as Pakistan face a formidable England in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 at the MCG on Sunday, November 13. Rauf has so far managed to register six scalps to his name from as many outings at an economy of 7.04.

The 29-year-old would be expected to showcase some impactful performances with the ball in hand against the Three Lions especially in the death overs as the opposition has a good batting line-up with amazing power-hitters in their arsenal.

The Jos Buttler-led side head into this contest on the back of an outstanding 10-wicket victory over India and that is why the Pakistani bowlers need to be extremely cautious.
