Australia's young enterprising all-rounder Cameron Green is one of the hottest properties going around and is all set to trigger a bidding war in the upcoming auction next month for IPL 2023. Newly appointed ODI skipper Pat Cummins wants the youngster to focus his energy on national commitments, however, he won't stop Green from playing in a competitive tournament like the IPL.

The Men in Yellow thumped rivals England in the first match of the ODI series to hand Pat Cummins a winning start to his captaincy stint. While David Warner and Travis Head starred with a sensational opening partnership, Steve Smith, along with Cameron Green, guided the hosts to a comfortable win in the series opener.

'How can you tell someone to say no to that kind of opportunity- Cummins on Green's potential participation in IPL 2023

Although Green did not have much to do in the match, the 23-year-old caught the eye of the world after smashing two trailblazing half-centuries in the T20I series against India in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup in Australia. The tall all-rounder is no mug with the ball either and can trouble the batters with his rapid pace, making him an invaluable asset in the shortest format of the game. Cummins wants the young cricketer to focus on playing for Australia but won't be stopping him from participating in the cash-rich league.

“Yeah potentially (Green will enter his name in the IPL auction). We’ll wait and see, I think the auction is a little while away. Selfishly as a captain, I’d love for him to save all of his energy for Australia. But how can you tell someone to say no to that kind of opportunity?” Cummins told SEN Radio.

Earlier, the Australian skipper had pulled out of the impending edition of the IPL to focus on the Ashes and commitments to the national team in the build-up to next year's 50-over World Cup in India.

"I’ve made the difficult decision to miss next year's IPL. The international schedule is packed with Tests and ODI’s for the next 12 months, so will take some rest ahead of an Ashes series and World Cup," Cummins had said in his tweet.
