ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Catching efficiency of each team
New Zealand has the best fielding efficiency rate in ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Fielding has always been a deciding factor in a high-pressure tournament like the ICC Champions Trophy, where small margins can make the difference. In the 2025 edition, New Zealand has set the benchmark with their brilliant fielding abilities, having a catching efficiency of 91.1%. Meanwhile, India has struggled despite having the best fielders.
New Zealand's perfect fielding has been a crucial factor in their progression to the final. With Glenn Phillips being the best in the business, the team has shown the ability to convert the half-chances to memorable moments, which has put them ahead of the competition. On the other hand, India dropped eleven catches and missed a stumping in the five matches played.
The Kiwis have surely been the best fielding side in the tournament, playing four matches and taking 35 catches while dropping only five. South Africa follows with 20 catches and four drops in three matches, having an efficiency of 83.3%. Australia has played three matches and has bagged 16 catches and dropped five, with a catch efficiency of 76.1%.
Afghanistan have registered a 75.0 per cent efficiency, taking a dozen full of catches in the tournament, and dropped four of the chances. England completed 11 catches while dropping four in three games, resulting in an efficiency of 73.3%. Bangladesh, in their two games, took six catches and dropped three, registering an efficiency of 66.6%. Meanwhile, host Pakistan has struggled the most after India's 52.18, taking six catches but dropping four in just two matches, leading to the lowest catch efficiency of 60.0%.
New Zealand’s brilliance in the field has been evident in every game. Players like Phillips, Kane Williamson, and Daryl Mitchell have made them one of the strongest fielding units. Phillips, in particular, has been sensational, executing gravity-defying catches twice. His first moment came in the competition opener against Pakistan when he jumped to his left to complete Mohammad Rizwan's catch. Later, when the Black Caps took on India in the final league stage game, the 28-year-old once again pulled off a stunner to send star batter Virat Kohli packing.
