'If Australia get one Test, I'd be very surprised' - Simon Doull predicts ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy's outcome
Doull believes Australia have a very difficult task at hand.
Following team India’s emphatic victory against Australia in the first Test of the series, many have already started predicting a clean sweep in the series by the Indians. Team India dominated Australia right from the start of the first test in Nagpur. The Aussies managed to score only 177 runs in the first innings, whereas Indian players played influential knocks with the bat to increase the pressure.
In the end, Australia lost the first Test on Day 3, losing the match by an innings and 132 runs. Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull has opined on Australia’s chances in the series. The 53-year-old even stated that he would be surprised if Australia manage to even win one game in the series.
"If Australia get one Test, I'd be very surprised. Without rain interning, I can see a 4-0 (in India's favour). If Australia have a day out with the ball or if Smith and Labuschagne have a Test match to remember with the bat, they might steal a Test but I don't see anything other than a 3-1 or 4-0 to India," Doull told Sports Yaari.
I have no issues with it: Doull on Indian pitches
The pitch was one of the many topics of conversation during the first Test match. There were several controversies related to the surface that the teams played on and some even termed the pitch as ‘doctored’. Simon Doull also came forward to talk about the pitches in use as well.
"Most people that post something about certain nature of surfaces in India or anywhere around the subcontinent are looking for clickbait, they are just looking to jump on board and gain followers. You can't tell me that the surfaces we have seen in Australia recently have not been home-friendly. As long as the pitch is not substandard, I have no issues with it. If it seems to take two days, no problem," Doull added.
The 53-year-old also opined that the current generation of players doesn’t play spin as well as Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid used to. He also stated that he would never complain about a surface like the Australians are doing.
