Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry took a dig at England following the Deepti Sharma run out incident that made headlines. This came after the Indian player ran out Charlotte Dean at the non-striker’s end in the final ODI of the recent series.

Deepti was subject to heavy criticism from many players of the cricketing fraternity as many former cricketers claimed that her actions did not uplhold the spirit of the game. England were nine-down against India before the incident and the dismissal led India to win the game and seal the series 3-0.

Meanwhile, Perry did not back Deepti’s move but also took a dig at England. "I think the overall gist is no good, don't do it, but if you're going to do it, do it to England," she said on Grade Cricketer's podcast.

It was in the 44th over that turned the game in India’s favour, thanks to the run out by Deepti Sharma. The run out was made when England needed only 17 runs to win with one wicket in hand. Meanwhile, it was veteran fast bowler Jhulan Goswami's last international game and she received the perfect farewell with a series win on the English soil.

Upon Deepti’s arrival in India, she told reporters that the run-out was pre-planned as the side had anticipated it. "It was our plan because she was doing it repeatedly. We had also warned her. So, according to the guidelines of the rules we did it," said Deepti.

Team India's skipper Harmanpreet Kaur also supported Deepti for her presence of mind. "I thought you will ask about the first nine wickets because they were also not easy to take. I don't think we have done something new. What I feel is, that shows your awareness of what the batters are doing. I will back my player because I don't think she has done something which is not in the ICC rules," she had said during the post-match presentation ceremony.
