'I'm treating this as big opportunity' - Taniya Bhatia confident on leaving mark in inaugural edition of mega cricket carnival

India Women's cricketer Taniya Bhatia is more than ready to set foot into the inaugural Women's Premier League 2023 (WPL). The marquee event is scheduled to begin from March 4, 2023.

As many as five teams will be locking horns with each other over a period of twenty-two days, with the final slated to be played on March 26, 2023. In the inaugural auction, a total of 448 players from around the world went under the hammer. Out of them 269 were Indians and 169 were overseas cricketers. Notably 19 of them were from associate nations.

Taniya Bhatia will be representing the Delhi Capitals in the WPL. The franchise bought her for her base price of ₹ 30 lakhs. Notably, Bhatia last played for India in August 2022. Thereafter, Richa Ghosh rose to the international circuit through her big-hitting skills which surely impressed former cricketers and fans of women cricket.

"I'm very excited. We will be playing alongside the legends of all countries. In fact, playing with them a big boost in itself. It's like playing international cricket, really. The gap with the big players is bridged because here, we have players like Meg Lanning, Marizanne Kapp. Everyone around the world know them and support them," Bhatia said.

"When we play against Australia and South Africa, they are very competitive. So, it will be a good opportunity for learn. I'm treating this as a big opportunity," the 25-year-old stated while speaking in an interview with the Hindustan Times.

The wicketkeeper-batter is hopeful that the WPL will definitely encourage aspiring women cricketers to take up the game and also promote the sport among fans. She was of the opinion that playing with the big names in international cricket, especially the top overseas players will help bridge the gap between the playing skills of them and the Indian players.

Taniya is looking at the WPL as an extremely important opportunity to learn from the best and make the most out of it to polish and display her skills on the big stage. Also, it will be a major source to try and cement one's place back into the national side.
