'Incredible batting by them' - Ambati Rayadu lauds Sudarshan-Gill's performance against KKR in IPL 2025
Shubman Gill scored 90 runs, including ten boundaries and three sixes.
The former Indian cricketer, Ambadi Rayadu, applauded Shubman Gill's performance against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2025. The Gujarat Titans (GT) captain missed out on a well-deserved century by 10 runs. He hit ten boundaries and three sixes, despite struggling at the start. He was dismissed in the 18th over by Vaibhav Arora.
However, he had destroyed KKR’s bowling lineup by then. GT went down to score 198 runs in the first innings as they were forced to bat first. They got the much-needed start from Sai Sudarshan and Gill, which Butler later converted. GT only lost three wickets, which shows how their top order handled the batting.
The former cricketer spoke about Gill and how he found his rhythm back. Moreover, it was a slow and sluggish pitch, but Gill batted responsibly, helping the Gujarat-based franchise to win the game.
"It all started with Harshit Rana bowling those two wide deliveries—Gill was struggling a bit before that. But after that, he really found his rhythm. We saw some incredible shots—pure cricketing strokes. That slog sweep against Sunil Narine was especially impressive. It wasn’t an easy shot to execute, and he managed to run all around the pitch. That shows batsmanship—boundaries along the ground, intelligent placement. It speaks to the quality he has, and the strength of the top-order partnerships. That’s how you bat on a slow, sluggish pitch. Incredible batting by Shubman Gill," said Ambati Rayadu on JioStar.

It gives us such joy to watch him bat: Ambati Rayadu
Speaking about Sai Sudarshan, Rayadu said that it gives him joy to watch the young batter. Meanwhile, Sudarshan scored 52 runs off 36 balls, including six boundaries and one maximum. He batted at a strike rate of 144.44. Sudarshan played classical cricket, keeping his eyes on the ball and using the pace on the slow pitch.
"It gives us such joy to watch him bat. As a classical batsman, he shows how the game can still be played in a traditional style—use the pace of the ball, play under your eyes, keep it along the ground, and play smart cricket. Playing smart cricket brings runs and also builds confidence. When you have that kind of confidence in the dugout, it creates a ripple effect. Everyone feeds off that momentum, and your judgment and clarity of thought become top-notch. That’s what we’re seeing with him this season," added Rayadu.
