India are locking horns with Afghanistan in the first T20I of the three-match series on Thursday, January 11 at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. During the toss, India captain Rohit Sharma once again grabbed the attention for forgetting his playing combination. Notably, the Indian skipper won the toss and elected to bowl first and began revealing the names of the players who missed out from the playing XI.

The 35-year-old revealed Sanju Samson, Avesh Khan and Yashasvi Jaiswal but forgot the last name. He got some help from the commentator Murali Kartik who reminded him about Kuldeep also not playing as Sharma had informed him before the toss.

“I will tell you the guys who’re missing out, who are Sanju, Avesh, Yashasvi, who didn’t pull up well. And then one more, I told you before the toss, Kuldeep his playing? You’re right Kuldeep,” said Rohit Sharma at the toss.

Notably, Rohit has a habit of forgetting things as he’s previously forgotten what he had planned to do at the toss during an ODI. Even, Virat Kohli had famously revealed that the India captain forgets most of his belongings at the hotel or on flights as well.

Meanwhile, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal missed out on selection in the opening T20I due to a sore right groin. Ahead of the series, head coach Rahul Dravid had backed him to open the innings with captain Rohit Sharma who’s making a comeback to T20Is after 14 months.

Rohit last played in the T20 World Cup 2022

The opening batter last played in the T20 World Cup 2022 where India were knocked out of the tournament during the semi-final following a humiliating ten-wicket loss. Rohit had a miserable tournament with the bat, scoring just 116 runs from six innings at an average of 19.33 and a strike rate of 106.42.

However, with Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav injured, the BCCI had to name a new captain for the Afghanistan series and hence Rohit was called back along with star batter Virat Kohli.
