With the Border Gavaskar Trophy set to begin on February 9, the selection of the starting lineup will be an interesting aspect for Team India to consider ahead of the first Test in Australia. One of the most interesting things to see is who gets to open alongside skipper Rohit Sharma.

23-year-old Shubman Gill has been in sensational form recently and is one of the top contenders for that opening spot. KL Rahul will also return to the squad after a brief absence and could be selected as the opener. Skipper Rohit Sharma recently gave his take on the situation.

Speaking about the same in a pre-match press conference, Rohit Sharma said, "Shubman has been in supreme form, a lot of big hundreds." Many veteran players have picked Gill as their first choice opener for the series, but KL's return may change those plans.

Gill, who has been in fantastic form recently, could be influential for team India ahead of the series, and his form could decide the flow of the Indian batting attack.

SKY has shown what he brings to the range: Rohit Sharma

Apart from selecting the openers, team India faces an important decision in the middle order as well. They will be without Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant. Pant has been a match-winner for Team India in Test cricket in the last few series, and his absence will be felt greatly.

Team India will be looking for someone to replicate Pant’s counterattack, and there is no one better than Suryakumar Yadav to take the attack to the opposition. Talking about the same, skipper Rohit Sharma said, "SKY has shown what he brings to the range, but we have not decided whom we will go with."

"We will miss Rishabh Pant, but we have guys to fill the role. We have had a good talk with the batters about their plans, and hopefully, we will execute them from tomorrow onwards," the Indian captain added.
