IND vs AUS: Shreyas Iyer's sensational grab at leg gully brings curtains on Usman Khawaja's knock
Australia finished Day 2 on 61/1.
The ongoing second Test between India and Australia is moving forward at a rapid pace as India got all out for 262 on Day 2 of the Test. Australia having a lead of one run, came out to bat in the final session to set a target for India for the fourth innings. The Australian openers Usman Khawaja and Travis Head came with a clear intent of scoring at a good rate and to bring Indian bowlers under pressure.
Top scorer of Australia’s first innings, Khawaja was also playing inventive shots to not allow the Indian spinners to settle. However, one such shot also led to his downfall as India got their first breakthrough of the second innings.
The southpaw paddled a delivery by Ravindra Jadeja straight to Shreyas Iyer who was stationed at leg gully. Iyer managed to grab hold of the tricky catch as he balanced himself and held the ball travelling to his right.
Notably, Iyer was also dismissed courtesy of a brilliant close-in catch by Peter Handscomb at forward short leg during India’s first innings. Following his dismissal, India were in a spot of bother at 66/4. Seeing their side in trouble Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja added 59 crucial runs for the fifth wicket to stabilise the innings.
However, their partnership couldn’t last long and both were dismissed within three overs. India further lost KS Bharat and were reeling at 139/7, still 124 runs behind Australia’s first innings total. All-rounder Axar Patel once again took it upon himself to take India to safe shores with his brilliant innings of 74. He was involved in a 114-run stand with Ravichandran Ashwin for the eighth wicket which took India closer to Australia’s first innings total.
India were eventually bowled out for 262 giving Australia a lead of one run in the first innings. The Aussie batters came out with clear intent of looking for runs on the pitch that is getting difficult to bat on with every passing hour. At stumps, Australia finished on 61/1 after 12 overs with Travis Head on 39(40) and Marnus Labuschagne on 16 (19).
