ODI World Cup 2023, IND vs AUS: Shubman Gill ruled out of fifth match
The high-octane clash between India and Australia will be played in Chennai on October 8.
Team India are all set to officially begin their campaign in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup on October 8, Sunday. Rohit Sharma and Co. will lock horns against the five-time champions Australia in the fifth match of the tournament at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
In a recent update, India's batting sensation Shubman Gill will not take part in the high-octane clash as he did not travel with the team to the venue. The young batter has been suffering from dengue since reaching Chennai. Notably, he had missed the team’s net session as well.

The Fazilka-based batter could play a key role for Team India in his debut ODI World Cup. He is expected to be available for India's second match against Afghanistan on October 11, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, in Delhi. Gill was crucial for India in their recent three-match ODI series against Australia at home which they won 2-1. Playing in only the first two games, he played significant knocks of 74 and 104, respectively.

Shubman Gill was also the highest run-scorer in Men in Blue's successful Asia Cup campaign this year. The opening batter amassed 302 runs in six games at an average of 75.50 and a strike rate of 93.49 which included a century in the final Super Four stage clash against Bangladesh and two fifties.

Gill, who made his international debut in an ODI series against New Zealand in Hamilton in January 2019, has scored over 3000 runs across all formats of the game. The Punjab-born cricketer has been a standout performer for India in white-ball cricket so far this year, scoring an impressive 1,230 runs from 20 games at an average of 72.35. The 24-year-old is slowly closing in on the No.1 spot in the ICC ODI Rankings for batters as he is just behind Pakistan skipper Babar Azam who is leading the chart.
