IND vs AUS: Suryakumar Yadav becomes first Indian to make debut across all formats after turning 30
In 79 First Class matches, Suryakumar Yadav has scored 5549 runs.
The flamboyant Suryakumar Yadav is arguably the first name in a team sheet when it comes to T20 cricket. After proving himself time and again in domestic cricket, Yadav got his first break in international cricket in March 2021. He soon made the most of the opportunity and became a dependable cricketer for India in the shortest format of the game.
When it comes to First Class cricket, Yadav has enormous experience and most importantly, the stats to back his case. In 79 First Class matches, the cricketer has scored 5549 runs but despite so, he wasn’t in India’s scheme of things in red-ball cricket for a long time. However, the wait finally ended as he made his Test debut against Australia in the first Test at Nagpur on February 9.
With that, he became the first Indian cricketer in history to make his debut in all three formats after turning 30. Despite playing reasonably well for Mumbai and in the Indian Premier League, Yadav was not considered for selection because of his consistency. However, in the past couple of years, the 32-year-old has mastered the art and thus, the team management believes that he is now ready for Test cricket.
In the absence of Rishabh Pant, Yadav will have the responsibility of scoring quick runs in the middle. He is expected to have the freedom to play his natural game and if he indeed manages to do so, the Australian bowlers may find it really hard to stop him from scoring.
Notably, along with Yadav, KS Bharat too made his debut for India in the first Test against the Pat Cummins-led side. The wicketkeeper-batter was waiting in the wings for a long time as Pant and Wriddhiman Saha were the first-choice keepers for India after MS Dhoni’s retirement.
Meanwhile, the keeper-batter has played 86 First-Class games and has scored 4707 runs at an average of 37.95. He has vast experience and will be very important to the team, especially playing in home conditions.
