IND vs ENG 2024: AB de Villiers lauds 'incredible' Shubman Gill after under-pressure ton

Team India put forth a brilliant showing in the second Test of their ongoing five-game Test series against England. Having lost the first Test, the Rohit Sharma-led side heavily improved in Vizag to level the series.

One of the standout stars of the game was Shubman Gill, who scored 104 runs in 147 deliveries and ensured that India posted a big target for England to chase. It is worth noting that the 24-year-old was under heavy scrutiny from critics after his recent subpar performances.

Having performed under pressure, Gill’s knock impressed former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers, who lauded him as an "incredible player". De Villiers opined that his knock shows just how much talent Gill has.

"He (Gill) came to Vizag and just showed the incredible character that the young man has got. What an incredible player. I don't know if he has worked on his technique at all or has anything changed, but it just shows you the talent he has got. In the second innings of a big Test match, that was a telling hundred and let me tell you, that was the difference between the two sides,” AB de Villiers said on his YouTube channel.

Furthermore, AB de Villiers also talked of English batter Zak Crawley’s controversial LBW dismissal. After a moment where many thought that the DRS gave a wrong call in dismissing Crawley, the former South Africa batter opined that Ben Stokes being upset about the matter was understandable.

"I am looking at it now and I feel it is not hitting the leg stump (Crawley LBW). It might just clip or touch the outer part of the leg-stump, which ultimately would be umpire's call. Technology has made decisions more accurate, but they need to make sure that the cameras are right in line with the middle stump at both ends and not at an angle. Ben Stokes was a little bit upset and rightfully so,” De Villiers said.
