The Men’s Selection Committee on Sunday added Washington Sundar to India’s squad for the remainder of the Test series against New Zealand.

Washington Sundar will link-up with the squad in Pune ahead of the second Test. The inclusion of the cricketer comes right after his scintillating ton against Delhi in the second round of Ranji Trophy 2024-25 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.

Meanwhile, for New Zealand, star experienced batter Kane Williamson is expected to take part in the Pune Test since he is expected to be fit for the encounter. It is noteworthy to mention that Williamson was a part of the squad for the first Test but did not travel with the squad to Bengaluru, and arrived in India later. His inclusion is surely going to boost the confidence of the BlackCaps' who are already 1-0 up in the three-match series.

India’s updated squad for the second and third Test against New Zealand:

Rohit Sharma (C), Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Akash Deep, Washington Sundar

Speaking more of the first Test, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru saw the visiting side win the red-ball clash rather convincingly after dismantling the Indian side for just 46 runs in the first innings. A mammoth 356-run lead meant that the Rohit Sharma-led side could only put a target of 107 runs for the Kiwis, and despite the rain threats, Rachin Ravindra and Will Young ensured they remained at the crease to see the side score the winning runs in the first session on the final day.

Meanwhile, the second Test will be held in Pune, Maharashtra, as the teams gear up for yet another red-ball contest in a spiced up race for the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. New Zealand went up by a couple of spots to gain fourth position on the WTC points table, whereas, India, still atop, saw their points percentage falter a bit.
