An upbeat India will be looking to seal the series as they face Sri Lanka in the second One Day International at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, January 12. However, the hosts had to make a forced change in their playing XI as they dropped wrist-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal due to concerns related to his bowling shoulder.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to its official Twitter handle and mentioned that the frontline spinner was unavailable for selection in the ongoing second game due to a sore right shoulder.

"One enforced change for us, Chahal in the last game put in a dive and hasn't recovered well today, so Kuldeep Yadav comes in," Team India captain Rohit Sharma had, meanwhile, said at the toss.

In Chahal’s absence, his long-time spin bowling partner Kuldeep Yadav has finally got a chance to prove himself in the spin department and he would be looking forward to making the most of his opportunities by working in tandem with another left-arm spinner Axar Patel.

Incidentally, Chahal could manage to add just one scalp to his name in the form of Wanindu Hasaranga. He was very economical with the ball in hand finishing with figures of 1/58 from his 10 overs at an economy of 5.8.

Notably, the Haryana cricketer had played in all the three T20Is that preceded the ongoing One Dayers and finished with three wickets. Meanwhile, the extent of Yuzvendra Chahal’s shoulder problem is unknown and it now remains to be seen whether he would be fit in time ahead of the final ODI against the Lankans on Sunday, January 15.

India will be hosting New Zealand in a white-ball series comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is starting Wednesday, January 18 and they would be hoping that Chahal is in a position to participate in the series.

Injury concerns in India and Sri Lanka camps

Apart from India, even Sri Lanka have a couple of issues in their playing XI with two of their key players -- Dilshan Madushanka and Pathum Nissanka missing out -- due to their respective injury. Madushanka had dislocated his right shoulder in the series opener while the in-form opener missed out from the 2nd ODI due to a stiff back.

"Two changes - Madushanka (shoulder injury) and Pathum Nissanka out (stiff back), Nuwanidu Fernando gets a debut and Lahiru Kumara is back," Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka said at the toss.
