IND vs SL, Asia Cup 2023 final: What will happen if the Asia Cup 2023 final gets washed out?

Two of the most successful teams in the history of the Asia Cup 2023, India (IND) and Sri Lanka (SL), will once again battle it out for continental glory on September 17 in Colombo. Courtesy of their win against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super Four stage, the Men in Blue have qualified for the summit clash, while the Lankan Lions have been extremely consistent and made it to the final on their home turf.

It has been all about the team game for Sri Lanka. Even in the absence of some of the key players, Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka never pressed the panic button and guided the team to yet another final. Dunith Wellalage has been a force to reckon with, along with Kusal Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva and Matheesa Pathirana. 

However, amidst all the good news, Maheesh Theekshana’s absence may bother the team in the final. Sri Lanka have been extraordinary when it comes to the spin department, and hence, missing the 23-year-old can prove to be a massive blow for the team. However, they have all the qualities to go the distance.

When it comes to India, there are a few concerns they need to address at the moment, particularly their batting. In the absence of Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya, the middle-order batters failed to impress against Bangladesh, and that’s not a good sign ahead of the final and the ODI World Cup. Shubman Gill’s century is a massive plus point, on the other hand.

Bowlers have done a good job so far, particularly Kuldeep Yadav, who has picked up nine wickets in four matches. Hence, it will be a cracking match when these two sides meet again in the competition.

However, rain has played a massive role in the ongoing Asia Cup. There is a possibility that it can play a spoilsport on the night of the finals as well. Meanwhile, if it does, the game will be shifted to reserve day on September 18. In case it rains on that day as well, the trophy will be shared between both teams.
