India is celebrating its 77th Independence Day. Indians from different sectors have flooded social media to wish fellow countrymen on the auspicious occasion. Virat Kohli also posted on his official 'X' handle and wished everyone a happy Independence Day.

The former Indian captain will be completing 15 years in international cricket this week. He has been someone who has worn his heart on his sleeve and represented India with surreal passion. His warrior-like mentality on the field rubs off on his teammates and invigorates them to push beyond their threshold points.

Virat gave a candid take on how special August 15, India's Independence Day, is to him. The 34-year-old mentioned that his late father was also born on August 15 and that makes the day even more special to him.

"Independence Day is the most important day in the history of our country. Especially, with the way it's celebrated in India and so much happening around it. For me, it's all the more special because it's my father's birthday. It was all the more special because both occasions were celebrated. I have many fond memories of Independence Day," Virat said in a video shared by Star Sports.

"I feel proud of what we have achieved as a nation after Independence. On most Independence days, I have been playing matches or hoisting the flag. When the national anthem plays, it is a moment of pride."

'We used to prepare a lot the night before' - Virat Kohli reminisced kite-flying days in Delhi on Independence Day

There is a tradition of flying kites in Delhi on Independence Day. Virat revealed that he enjoyed flying kites back then and mentioned how he would make the preparations one day in advance alongside his family.

"In Delhi, there is a culture of flying kites on the day, and hence during my growing up years that used to be very special. We used to prepare a lot the night before. Usually on Independence Day, it used to be windy in Delhi," Virat said in the video.
