The first of the three-match ODI series between India and Australia kicked off on March 17 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Hardik Pandya called it right at the toss and put the visitors to bat first on a genuine cricketing wicket.

Steve Smith's side had worked themselves into a strong position after 19.3 overs. Mitchell Marsh was putting on an absolute masterclass in Mumbai after hammering the Indian bowlers around the park.

But India, courtesy of Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja, rattled the opposition and bundled them out for just 188 in 35.4 overs, making it the least number of overs India have taken to dismiss Australia in a one-day international.

Shami, Siraj make the ball talk at Wankhede

After Travis Head dragged one onto his stumps from a good length of Mohammed Siraj, Australia stepped on the gas and started scoring at an excellent pace, with Mitch Marsh making the bulk of the scoring and stitching a 72-run partnership with Steve Smith.

Mitch Marsh continued his dominance over the opposition but was sent back to the pavilion as Ravindra Jadeja spun a web by slowing down the game and giving the ball some air, pushing Marsh to play a false shot. It all went downhill for the visitors since the 20th over, from 129/2 in 19.4 to 188/10 in 35.4 overs.

In his second spell, Mohammed Shami was breathing fire and registered his second-best bowling figures against Australia in ODIs, picking up 3/17 in just six overs, including two maidens. Siraj played the second fiddle to Shami and cleaned up the tail.

On the other hand, Australia registered their third-lowest total against India in India, scoring just 188 in Mumbai. The other two low scores were 141 and 181 at Ahmedabad and Indore, respectively.
