India Toss Record: How many tournaments did India lose every Toss?
Rohit Sharma has lost 12 consecutive tosses in ODI cricket as a skipper and shares the record with West Indian legend Brian Lara.
Cricket has been a game where some of the most weird moments and records are created. And one of the most unique record created recently is after Rohit Sharma, who lost his twelfth consecutive toss as captain in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and it was also his 15th successive attempt where the coin flip did not go in the India skipper's favour. This happened after he could not call it correctly in the Champions Trophy final versus New Zealand.
Notably, five of these incidents happened during the ongoing eight-team tournament, which also became the only instance where India lost the toss in all the games of a single tournament. The Kiwi skipper won the toss and chose to bat first in the grand finale at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, March 09. However, Sharma had no issues in batting second.
"I don't mind batting second. It is a good pitch, hasn't changed a lot. We have to bowl first, and we just need to focus how to restrict them. At the end of the day, what matters is how well you want to play. We don't want to worry about the toss. We have played good cricket. Another important game. We will see what needs to be done. NZ have been a great team. Another challenge and we will see how well we can play. We are playing the same team," the India captain had said at the toss.
With twelve lost instances in a row, Rohit now shares the record with West Indies' Brian Lara, who had a dozen of toss losses between 1998 and 1999 in ODIs played by the Caribbean side.
The loss of tosses does not affect the record
Interestingly, despite not being able to call it correctly before the game, Rohit's captaincy tactics and strategical moves have worked wonders for the Men in Blue, as they have remained unbeaten throughout their Champions Trophy campaign so far. Rohit & Co. also whitewashed the English side 3-0 before coming into the eight-team tournament.
