IPL 2023: Broadcasters issue clarification over Rohit Sharma's dismissal
Rohit Sharma was controversially adjudged LBW during match 54 against RCB.
The contentious LBW decision which ended Rohit Sharma’s innings during match 54 of the IPL 2023 between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore, is being hotly debated in the cricketing fraternity. The MI captain was adjudged out lbw in the fifth over of the second innings after the on-field decision was overturned as RCB opted for a review.
Following the controversy, the official broadcaster of IPL 2023, Star Sports has issued a clarification that the impact was 2.9 metres ahead of the stumps and not 3 metres.
Rohit was Wanindu Hasaranga’s second scalp of the over after he had earlier dismissed Ishan Kishan on the fourth ball of the over. Rohit and Ishan added 51 runs for the first wicket off 28 balls to get their side off to a fiery start chasing a target of 200. Following their dismissals, Suryakumar Yadav and Nehal Wadhera put on a massive 140-run-stand off just 64 balls to bring MI on the verge of victory.
Suryakumar Yadav played one of the greatest innings of his IPL career scoring a sensational 83 off 35 balls smashing seven fours and six sixes in his innings. He put his 360-degree strokeplay on display clobbering RCB bowlers all around the ground.
Suryakumar was well supported by Nehal Wadhera who scored his second consecutive fifty of the season scoring 52* off 34 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes in his innings. Courtesy of their massive stand, MI recorded the fastest-ever chase of a 200-plus score in IPL history reaching the target in just 16.3 overs.
Following their victory, MI climbed to the third spot on the IPL 2023 points table with six wins from 11 matches. They will next lock horns with Gujarat Titans on Friday, May 12 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
