If Cameron Green's finger injury wasn't concern enough for his new employers Mumbai Indians, his unavailability in the bowling department till April 13 has turned into a headache for the five-time IPL winners. Green is currently recovering from a finger injury and will be available for Australia's tour of India in February.

The mercurial Aussie all-rounder who was acquired by Mumbai Indians for a record-breaking sum, won't be allowed to bowl in the initial phase of IPL 2023 if he features in all four Tests of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India as he would be required to take a four-week rest from bowling. The franchises were informed of Australia's workload management policy guidelines via an email on the morning of the auction on December 23.

"Cricket Australia has informed this morning that Cameron Green (player No. 8) will be fully available. However, if he features in all the four Test matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Green will not be able to bowl for four weeks from the conclusion of the fourth Test scheduled from 9th March to 13th March, 2023," BCCI's CEO and IPL COO Hemang Amin wrote in an email to all ten franchises.

BCCI advises NCA to monitor the workload of Indian players ahead of the 2023 World Cup

The young Aussie superstar recently suffered a broken finger during the second Test against South Africa at the MCG. However, he is likely to be fit before the decisive Border-Gavaskar series in India. His all-round exploits have made him an invaluable asset to the Aussie team in a relatively short period and with crucial international fixtures like the WTC final and the Ashes on the horizon, it only makes sense to manage his workload.

Following in the footsteps of the ECB and CA, BCCI also advised the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to monitor and manage the workload of the Indian players shortlisted for the 2023 ODI World Cup later this year. The latest announcement by the apex cricket board has the IPL franchises in a pickle, as they could be at the risk of resting some of their key players in an elongated season.
