Chennai Super Kings registered their second consecutive win in IPL 2023 as they beat Mumbai Indians by seven wickets on April 8 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Ajinkya Rahane starred with the bat, scoring 61 off 27 to help his side chase down 158 in 18.1 overs. Despite, their clinical performance, CSK had a cause of worry as seamer Deepak Chahar injured himself while bowling during the game.

CSK management have given the update on the right-arm seamer’s fitness and said that he will be undergoing scans this week to determine the extent of the injury in his left hamstring. The 30-year-old pulled his hamstring on the fifth ball while bowling the first over of the match, as the physio Tommy Simsek came running in to assess him.

He completed his over after getting some treatment but immediately left the field after finishing the over as Subhranshu Senapati came in as a substitute fielder in his place. During the second innings, he was replaced by Ambati Rayudu through the Impact Player rule.

Chahar has been struggling with repeated injuries over the last 18 months, and recently revealed that he had found it ‘mentally tough’ to deal with missing so much cricket.

Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes also missed MI clash

Apart from Chahar, all-rounder Ben Stokes has also incurred an injury in his toe and missed the game against Mumbai on Saturday. The England all-rounder was bought for a whopping INR 16.5 crore at the mini-auction held in December 2022.

"Stokes played Chennai Super Kings' first two matches of IPL 2023 before injuring his toe during training ahead of the third game, which the Super Kings won by seven wickets. The Chennai Super Kings medical staff are closely monitoring both the players and will provide all support necessary for their recovery,” the franchise said in a release.

All-rounder Moeen Ali also had to miss the game due to illness. However, he is also expected to be available soon. Having defeated the five-time champions at their home, Chennai will next lock horns with Rajasthan Royals on April 12 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
