IPL 2023: Franchises seek clarity on Cameron Green following Andrew McDonald's statements
Cameron Green put his name in the auction at a base price of Rs 2 crore.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises have approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to seek clarity on Cameron Green's availability. The Australia star all-rounder is poised to join the mix in the forthcoming IPL mini-auction held on December 23 in Kochi, India.
However, Australia head coach Andrew McDonald's latest statements on Green have left the IPL franchises baffled over his availability according to Cricbuzz. McDonald had stated that a decision on Green's workload will be made closer to the IPL.
"His overall load in the next 12 months of cricket, is it a concern? Yeah, I think it's a concern for every player. We've spoken about it several times. It's hypothetical to see how he's feeling come the end of March. He's got a lot of cricket before the IPL and I'm sure his decision won't be made right now, it will be made later on down the track leading into the IPL,” McDonald was quoted as saying..
Earlier in November, Green announced his participation in the mini-auction of the lucrative T20 tournament at a base price of Rs 2 crore. Franchises have been keeping tabs on the player, who is expected to draw big bucks in the auction.
WTC Final close to IPL Final
The statement by McDonald comes in reference to the hectic schedule that the national side will be busy with starting next year. Moreover, it is understood that the World Test Championship (WTC) Final could take place in the first week of June 2023. Both India and Australia are in contention to make it to the WTC 2021-23 summit clash.
Furthermore, the IPL final too will take place around the same time, making it precariously close to the ICC event. Prior to the IPL, Australia will engage in a multi-format series against India wherein the final ODI is tentatively scheduled to conclude on March 22, just several days before IPL commences.
The schedule clashing with the Indian top-tier league has concerned the Australian board and may not hand the NOC to Green for the IPL. An official confirmation will be announced soon by the boards (Cricket Australia and the BCCI) on Green’s availability.
