IPL 2023: Play of the day from GT vs CSK clash
Ruturaj Gaikwad's dismissal was overturned due to a no ball in the second over.
The Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings and the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday, May 23.
Coming in to bat first after losing the toss, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway opened the innings for the four-time champions. However, it seemed like disaster struck early for Chennai when Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed on the third ball of the second over.
However, it was then, when the play of the day was executed, that Gaikwad’s dismissal was overturned as Darshan Nalkande had bowled a no-ball. As Gaikwad spooned the ball to midwicket, Shubman Gill took the softest of catches; however, the decision was overturned due to it being a no-ball.
Gaikwad provides blistering start to Chennai Super Kings
After his dismissal was overturned, Gaikwad was sensational with the bat for Chennai in the first innings. The Indian batter went on to score 60 runs in 44 balls. Steadily building his innings, Gaikwad was finally dismissed by Mohit Sharma in the 11th over of the game.
As Gaikwad swooped down low to lift the ball at long-on, David Miller took an excellent catch to send the 26-year-old packing. The dismissal could prove to be costly for Chennai as they are looking to make their way into the summit clash of the tournament.
Defending the title, Gujarat Titans have been in scintillating form all season, and as the Hardik Pandya-led side looks to dominate the tie against Chennai, they too would be keen on reaching their second IPL final in two seasons.
It is also worth noting that while the winner of the tie will make it to the final, the losing team will make their way into Qualifier 2, where they will take on the winner of the eliminator that will be held between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday, May 24.
