Krishna was ruled out of the upcoming IPL season in February 2023 due to a stress fracture.
The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League is just a few days away and the excitement for the tournament is palpable all over India. With the T20 extravaganza set to get underway in four days, teams are finalizing their squads and filling the holes created by players’ injuries. Continuing with the same, Rajasthan Royals also announced Sandeep Sharma as a replacement for the injured seamer Prasidh Krishna on Monday, March 27.
Krishna was ruled out of the upcoming IPL season in February 2023 due to a lumbar stress fracture. The 27-year-old had a great season in 2022 as he picked 19 wickets at an average of 29. Krishna will be replaced by Sandeep Sharma who has experience of playing 104 IPL matches.
Sandeep Sharma's IPL career at a glance
The 29-year-old has picked up 114 wickets at an average of 26.33 in his 10-year-long career. Sharma’s breakthrough season in the tournament was in 2014 when he ended up picking 18 wickets at an average of 19.66 and played a pivotal role in taking Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab) to the final.
He came into the limelight after his 4-for in the final of the ICC U19 World Cup 2012 which helped India win their third title. The right-arm seamer finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament for India with 12 scalps to his name and his stupendous performance helped him earn a contract with Punjab Kings in 2013.
At the mini-auction, held in December 2022, Rajasthan bought star players such as Jason Holder (INR 5.75 crore), Adam Zampa (INR 1.5 Crore), and Joe Root (INR 2 Crore).
Led by Sanju Samson, Rajasthan came mighty close to winning their second IPL title in 2022 but unfortunately ended up losing in the final to Gujarat Titans. With some new additions to their squad, the 2008 champions will look to repeat history and get one step ahead in the upcoming season to win the coveted title for the second time. Rajasthan Royals will start their IPL campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 2 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
