IPL 2023: What is the accelerated process in Player Auction?
Each franchise will put out a list of ten players, nominating the players from the remaining ones.
Unlike the mega-auction last year, the IPL 2023 Player Auction will be a one-day affair set to commence in a few hours in Kochi. The IPL 2023 auction longlist originally consisted of 991 players before it was trimmed down to 405 players in the final list. An accelerated process will take place in the auction after the first 86 names have been presented for bidding.
Among the 405 players set to go under the hammer in the IPL 2023 auction, 273 players are from the Indian subcontinent, while 132 are from overseas, including four from Associate nations. However, the limited slots available for the franchises mean that only 87 players could be bought in the auction, including 30 overseas players.
An accelerated auction will commence towards the end of the IPL 2023 auction. Each franchise will put out a list of ten players, nominating a set number of players from the remaining ones. Only those players on the proposed list will be part of the accelerated auction, along with the players who went unsold from the initial list of 86 players.
The second round of the accelerated auction will commence if slots remain available even after the conclusion of the first round. Each participating franchise can have a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 25 players in their squad after the completion of the Player Auction for the 16th edition of the tournament. Only eight overseas players can be included in the squad of the ten participating teams.
Among the participating teams, 2016 IPL winners Sunrisers Hyderabad have the largest sum of money remaining in their purse, while two-time champions KOlkatat Knight Riders have the least purse value heading into the auction.
