IPL 2024: Chennai Super Kings' 2nd Innings Highlights against RR in Match 61
Chennai Super Kings were able to win their penultimate game of the season and Rajasthan Royals with ease.
During the final home game for the Chennai Super Kings, they hosted the high-flying Rajasthan Royals at the M.Chidambaram stadium for a day game. The visitors won the toss and opted to bat first hoping to set a competitive total while hoping to use their spin trio during the second innings.
However, it turned out to be a slow start from the visitors as they could only muster 38 runs from the powerplay. The top order got decent starts but gave their wickets away cheaply which turned out to be a problem for the team. If not for Riyan Parag’s 47 from 31 balls, the team would not have been able to post a fighting total. After the end of the first innings, Rajasthan Royals posted 141/5 on board.

In response, Chennai Super Kings started off brightly as out-of-form opener Rachin Ravindra got some boundaries to bring some momentum for the side during the chase. He was able to score 27 runs from 18 deliveries and his innings included one four and two sixes. Hometown boy Ravichandran Ashwin removed the New Zealand International in the fourth over. Daryl Mitchell and Ruturaj Gaikwad continued the attacking approach.
Chennai Super Kings: 121/5 after 15.5 overs- Second Strategic Time Out
The hosts looked in a comfortable position with Gaikwad anchoring the innings well. Yuzvendra Chahal started off brilliantly as he could scalp Daryl Mitchell's wicket during the 8th over. Moeen Ali joined the skipper at the crease and was looking to take the innings from there. However, the all-rounder’s stay at the crease was short-lived as he could only score 10 runs from 13 balls before giving his wicket away during the 12th over.
Shivam Dube came to the crease hoping to finish the game off as soon as possible for their side today. During the 14th over, he took on Ashwin and smacked three boundaries in his over. However, on the last ball of his spell, the veteran sent Dube back to the pavilion and sparked a little hope for his side.
Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also came in for a short while as he had to depart after giving his wicket away in a rather unusual manner. While trying to attempt a run-out at the non-striker’s end, Sanju Samson’s throw hit Jadeja directly and since the latter was covering the stumps, he was adjudged to be out.
Chennai Super Kings: 145/5 after 18.2 overs
On one end, Ruturaj Gaikwad still had his cool as he was anchoring the innings beautifully. The hosts used their impact player Sameer Rizvi after the dismissal of Jadeja. The duo combined well to get the team over the line in this crucial encounter for the team.
