IPL 2024: KKR-RR, GT-DC fixtures rescheduled
Two matches of the IPL 2024 have been rescheduled.
In a major announcement made by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024 matches between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals as well Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals have been rescheduled.
The KKR-RR clash was originally supposed to be held at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on April 17, but will now be played a day prior, on April 16. Furthermore, the GT-DC clash, which was originally supposed to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on April 16, will now be played on April 17.
The rescheduling occurred due to the concerns raised by the local police about their inability to provide security on April 17, with the match coinciding with the Hindu festival of Ram Navmi as well the upcoming general elections. Kolkata police had informed the concerned authorities about the same.
Notably, April 18 was also being considered, however, the option was deemed not suitable due to the start of the general elections on April 19.
"Since the match is coinciding with Ram Navami and a portion of security is already deployed for elections. Therefore it won't be possible for us to provide adequate security for the match on April 17," Kolkata Police said in a letter to Cricket Association of Bengal president Snehasish Ganguly, as per ESPNcricinfo.
KKR, RR unbeaten in IPL 2024
Speaking of the tournament, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals remain as the only two teams which are unbeaten in the IPL 2024. Having played three games in the season, Rajasthan Royals have managed to win all the matches, defeating Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals, and Mumbai Indians.
On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders occupy second place in the standings with two wins in two matches, having defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
