IPL 2024 Qualification Scenarios: How can Gujarat Titans qualify for playoffs after DC's win over GT?

Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans faced off in match 40 on Wednesday in New Delhi. Delhi Capitals emerged victorious, winning the game by a margin of four runs. As a result of this win, Delhi moved up from position eight to six in the points table.

Conversely, Gujarat Titans moved down from position six to seven in the same table. This was Delhi Capitals' fourth win of the season, and it helped them provide a double blow after outclassing Gujarat Titans earlier in the season. 

Currently, Rajasthan Royals are at the top of the points table with 14 points, followed closely by Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Gujarat Titans' chances of qualifying for the playoffs appear to be in jeopardy due to their poor Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.974. To address this issue, it is crucial for Gujarat Titans to win all of their remaining five league-stage matches.

Teams typically secure IPL playoff berths with 16 points or more, which means winning at least four league-stage matches for GT. However, the team faces a significant challenge in overcoming their negative Net Run Rate, given that they lost one of their five games.

DC thwart one-time champions at home

Speaking of the game, the Capitals batted first and scored a massive 224 for four. Captain Rishabh Pant led the charge with 88 runs off just 43 balls, while Axar Patel also contributed with 66 runs. In response, the Titans put up a good fight but fell just short, losing by only four runs. Among the Capitals bowlers, Kuldeep Yadav was the standout performer with figures of 2 for 29 in three overs.
