IPL 2024 Qualification Scenarios: How can Lucknow Super Giants qualify for playoffs after DC's win over LSG?

Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals weren’t having a great season in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as they lost their 4 matches from the 5 matches they played. However, on Friday, April 12, they hoped to beat the well-balanced LSG side who won their 3 out 4 matches in the season.

DC made a crucial change in their playing XI against LSG for the 26th match of the season. They decided to bench their star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh and gave a chance to young Australian batter and Big Bash League (BBL) superstar Jake Fraser-McGurk. The young gun didn’t disappoint and lived up to the expectations of the management with a brilliant half-century in his very first IPL outing.

LSG’s Ayush Badoni’s brilliant 55-run knock went into vain as DC thrashed LSG by 6 wickets with 11 balls to spare on their home soil. This was LSG’s 2nd loss of the season and with this loss, they went down from 3rd to 4th position in the points table.

Here, we will talk about how LSG can make their way to the playoffs

To qualify for the playoffs, LSG have to win the matches which will be played at their home ground. However, their next match is against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Shreyas Iyer-led side are in prime form. It’d be difficult for LSG to defeat the Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens.

However, after that, they will be back at the Ekana Stadium against the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 19. They must defeat CSK on their home ground as their next meeting against the yellow army will be at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Given that both clubs have played the same number of games and have the same amount of points, it would be crucial for LSG to defeat CSK. They have to win their next three games, which are scheduled to take place at Ekana Stadium and the 6 points they will earn from these wins will surely increase their chances of qualification for the playoffs. Their final three games, which will be played away from home, will be a challenging assignment, though.
