Jasprit Bumrah's fifer gets outclassed by Dinesh Karthik's quickfire half-century to help RCB reach 196 runs
Two teams struggling in form and desperate for a win to keep their hopes alive in IPL 2024 met each other on Thursday, as Mumbai Indians played hosts to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Hardik Pandya had no hesitation in bowling first after winning the toss and made just one change. Shreyas Gopal was into the side to replace the out of form Piyush Chawla. Bengaluru made three changes, with Akash Deep and Vyshak coming into the side. Will Jacks was given his debut in place of for MI star Cameron Green.
Powerplay: Overs 0.1 to 6 (Mandatory – 44/2)
Mumbai Indians began well with the ball inflicting two early blows. Virat Kohli was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah for a paltry score of 3, giving a much-need breakthrough for the hosts. Akash Madhwal then got the wicket of debutant Will Jacks, who made 8 in six balls.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 50 runs in 6.4 overs
Faf du Plessis struck to aggression as he played a few crisp shots against the opposition bowlers. Rajat Patidar too joined the fun as RCB brought up their fifty in the seventh over.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru: First Strategic Timeout (76/2 from 9 overs)
Mumbai Indians bowlers seemed lost for ideas as Patidar and Du Plessis took the attack to the bowlers. Shreyas Gopal and Romario Shepherd were expensive in their first two overs.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 100 runs in 11.2 overs
The first two balls of the 12th over bowled by Gerald Coetzee saw Rajat Patidar hit two successive sixes. Royal Challengers Bengaluru motored onto the 100 in style, much to the delight of their fans.
Half-Century: Rajat Patidar (off 25 balls)
It was a welcome return to form Rajat Patidar who has been down on confidence. The 30-year-old’s stay was ended by Coetzee’s short ball as it was taken by Ishan Kishan.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru: Second Strategic time-out (111/4 from 13 overs)
Rajat Patidar’s dismissal saw Glenn Maxwell come to the wicket. The Australian star missed a straight from Shreyas Iyer and given out LBW. Faf Du Plessis kept one end tight as he looked good to get his first half-century of the season.

Half Century: Faf Du Plessis (off 33 balls)
With the wickets falling at the other end, it was the responsibility for Faf Du Plessis to bat deep. The 39-year-old did just that as he scored his 34th IPL half-century.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 150 runs from 16.1 overs
Dinesh Karthik put on his innovation cap to striker Akash Madhwal for three fours in a single over. Just when the RCB team seemed short of runs, the veteran star took it upon himself to breathe new life into the game.
Milestone Alert: Jasprit Bumrah picks his 2nd IPL fifer
It was a day to remember for Mumbai Indians fans as Bumrah got his 2nd fifer in IPL cricket. Vijaykumar Vyshak was his fifth wicket as the crowd erupted into a huge cheer.

Half-Century: Dinesh Karthik (off 22 balls)
Veteran wicketkeeper and batter Dinesh Karthik took the bull by its horns and scored his 50 off just 22 balls. Five fours and four sixes were hit by the 38-year to give his team a strong finish.

End of the innings: Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 196/8 overs
The wicket-taking blitz by Bumrah made sure that Mumbai Indians kept RCB under 200. Du Plessis, Rajat Patidar, and Karthik played key knocks to help their side put a competitive total on the board.
