IPL 2024: Royal Challengers Bengaluru's 1st Innings Highlights against RR in Eliminator
Royal Challengers Bengaluru were able to post a competitive total of 172/8 in their 20 overs.
In the Eliminator match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) faced off against each other for a place in Friday's Qualifier 2 encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bowl first hoping to make the most of the dew factor in the second innings. Bengaluru went in with the same line-up but for the Royals, Shimron Hetmyer came back into the playing XI which is a huge positive.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru - 56/1 after 7 overs - First Strategic Time Out
It was a cautious start from Royal Challengers Bengaluru openers as they were cautious of Trent Boult’s swing and negated it well. Both Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis were looking for boundaries without taking much risk and were successful in doing so. But in an attempt to up the ante, du Plessis departed as Rovman Powell took a splendid catch and that brought Cameron Green to the crease for the Bangalore-based franchise.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru - 134/5 after 16 overs - Second Strategic Time Out
The duo were complimenting each other really well and looked to rotate the strike more often than not. But just after the strategic time-out, Yuzvendra Chahal got the prized wicket of Virat Kohli and that wicket gave the momentum to the side. Rajat Patidar came to the crease with the aim of stabilizing the innings for the team.
Cameron Green and Patidar had a great 43-run stand as the two batters were getting the boundaries frequently. However, during Ravichandran Ashwin’s last over he was able to remove Cameron Green as well as Glenn Maxwell on consecutive deliveries which made the situation even worse for the Bengaluru outfit.
Avesh Khan was having a torrid day but was still able to remove the dangerous Rajat Patidar with the short ball ploy working for him. He could have dismissed Dinesh Karthik as well on the next ball but a controversial call from the third umpire meant that the veteran batter stayed at the crease.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru - 172/8 after 20 overs
Mahipal Lomror and Dinesh Karthik were trying to help the side with a flurry of boundaries during the death overs. Avesh Khan ultimately got the wicket of Dinesh Karthik with the short ball and three balls later got Lomror dismissed as well. Royal Challengers Bengaluru ultimately finished at 172/8 after small cameos from Karn Sharma and Swapnil Singh.
