The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vs Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fixture at the Eden Gardens on April 6 might be moved to a different date or venue. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reschedule the game as it falls on the same day as the festival of Ram Navami.

What prompted the CAB to seek the rescheduling is the Kolkata police and local authorities conveying that they would not be able to provide adequate security on that day.

"We had long discussions with the authorities and the police where they made it clear that it won’t be possible to provide adequate security due to the festivities, despite it being a day fixture. We have now requested the BCCI for a rescheduling, and hopefully, we will have clarity over the next couple of days,” said CAB president Snehasish Ganguly to Sportstar.

While the CAB has put in a formal request with the BCCI, it appears unlikely to be accepted as the entire season's schedule is packed. Alternatively, the game may be moved to a different venue instead.

“We have received a formal request from the CAB and are currently exploring the possibilities, indicating that it is in conversation with the respective teams and the logistics teams to figure out a solution," a BCCI source said.

In IPL 2024, a KKR game at Eden Gardens was rescheduled due to the same reason. It remains to be seen what happens this time around. The BCCI source said that the ticket demand for the game is high and so an alternative is being worked upon. Moreover, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka has business interests in Kolkata and so he might wish to have the game played in Kolkata itself.

KKR begin their campaign on the opening day against RCB on March 22 while LSG meet DC on March 24 for their first match.
