IPL 2025: MS Dhoni could lead CSK against Delhi Capitals in Ruturaj Gaikwad's absence
Gaikwad injured his elbow in CSK's previous clash against Rajasthan Royals.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting coach Michael Hussey gave an update on Ruturaj Gaikwad's injury before the team's clash against Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 5.
Hussey stated that the final call regarding the captain's availability will be taken closer to the game, depending on Gaikwad's fitness. The CSK skipper copped a blow to his elbow against Rajasthan Royals, as he tried to duck against Tushar Deshpande's rising delivery that spicily bounced from a short of a good length. Hussey claimed Ruturaj is working hard in the nets but remains a "bit sore".
"Yeah, we’re hoping he’s going to try and have a bat today for training. And, yeah, it’s still a little bit sore, but it’s improving every day. So, we’re very hopeful, very confident that he’ll be fine for tomorrow (Saturday)," said Hussey.

When asked about Ruturaj's potential replacement, the Australian claimed he wasn't sure and the captain-coach duo had thought about it.
"I’m not sure. I don’t think we’ve thought about that too much. Well, I haven’t thought about it too much. I’m sure (Stephen) Fleming and Rutu (Ruturaj) have thought about that," Hussey added.
He then cheekily suggested MS Dhoni as an option without taking his name, stating that "young guy" who remains "behind the stumps" can take up the charge and replace Ruturaj as the skipper.
"But we’ve got some young guy coming through. He’s behind the stumps. Maybe he can do a good job. I’m not sure. He’s got a bit of experience in the role, so maybe he could do it. But I’m not exactly sure, to be honest," Hussey claimed. CSK will play DC in the 17th match of the IPL 2025 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
