Young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been declared fit by the National Cricket Academy (now BCCI Centre of Excellence) to resume playing cricket. The Andhra Pradesh-born will now be joining the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) camp for taking part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

For the record, Reddy had faced a side strain injury after the first T20I of the recently-concluded series against England. He was subsequently ruled out of the series and had to head for rehabilitation in Bengaluru's Centre of Excellence for the recovery. The good news is that the Visakhapatnam-born is now fully fit to return to the field and will be seen plying his trades with the Orange Army.

The star cricketer was the find of the previous season and was also named as the Emerging Player of the Season in IPL 2024 for his supremely impressive stint, scoring 303 runs at an average of 33.66 and a strike of 142.92. Mostly playing as an Impact Substitute, the pace-bowling all-rounder also chipped in with three wickets in seven innings, which assisted SRH to reach the finale, where they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders.

With an eye-catching performance in the cash-rich event, Reddy was shortly called into the national team, and debuted for India in a T20I series against Bangladesh. He made his Test debut during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia, and was the second-highest run-getter for India, where the tourists lost 1-3. The 21-year-old also notched up his maiden century during the Boxing Day encounter at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

SRH to face RR on March 23 to proceed IPL 2025 campaign

He was also retained by the Hyderabad-based franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, and will be a part of the set-up that includes the likes of Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Mohammed Shami, and Ishan Kishan.

This time round, the Sunrisers will be playing their opening fixture of the season against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, March 23 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. The Pat Cummins-led side, which emerged as runners-up in 2024, will be eager to go a step further and lift the second trophy for the franchise, which they last won in 2016, led by legendary David Warner.
