Uttar Pradesh batter Sameer Rizvi was sold for a whopping INR 8.4 Crore to Chennai Super Kings during the IPL 2024 mini auction on Tuesday, December 19 at Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. Rizvi entered the auction with a base price of INR 20 Lakh with Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals showing interest to buy him. It was eventually, CSK who won the bidding war and onboarded the talented 20-year-old.

The 20-year-old shone on his first outing in the tournament itself with a quick-fire knock of 14 (6) against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, March 26 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Rizvi walked in to bat in the second last over of the innings and added quick runs for his side smashing a couple of sixes against renowned wrist spinner Rashid Khan. The right-handed batter got his IPL career off to a blistering start by slog sweeping Rashid for a maximum towards deep square leg. He further came down the track on the last ball of the over to send the ball over the ropes once again over long off.

Rizvi made headlines for his stellar performances in the recent UP T20 League where he hit the most number of sixes for Kanpur Superstars (35). He further scored two breathtaking centuries during the T20 extravaganza along with a half-century. The Meerut-born cricketer finished as the third-highest run scorer of the tournament with 455 runs to his name from ten matches at an average of 50.56 and an incredible strike rate of 188.8.

Following his incredible run during the UP T20 League, Rizvi was called for trials by three franchises which included Punjab Kings. However, he couldn’t appear for the trials due to his commitments with the UP’s Under 23 squad where he rose to fame with a magnificent 91 (65) against Rajasthan in his first game.
